Anti-Condensate Heaters
GENERAL
Anti - Condensation are particularly valuable in motors that operate in damp or wet conditions e.g. pumps, dockside cranes, shipboard and marine equipment, offshore generators and tropical environments. They offer a low cost, easily fitted method of maintaining the motor above “Dew Point”, reducing the possibility of motor burn-outs caused by insulation breakdown due to moisture.
The range covers motor heating tapes for operation on 220 - 240 volts, however some 110 volts heaters are stocked.
APPLICATIONS
The heaters are affixed to the head winding of the motor, by tying it into position; it is recommended that the heater be secured to the motor windings using narrow gauge cotton tape fixings (not cords). This will prevent possible damage to the element wire. The winding, including the heaters is then varnished so that the heater becomes an integral part of the motor winding. Varnishing or impregnation waterproofs the heaters and gives a good thermal contact to ensure maximum heat transfer into the windings.
In principle, a heater is fitted to each end of the windings, as this will provide overall balanced heat to the windings. (Note: Some motor manufacturers use only one heater. In this case the new tape should be of the same size and located in the same position as the original heater.
The heater should be disconnected whilst the motor is energised as the heat generated by the motor, in operation, will keep the temperature above “Dew point”.
The usual means of achieving this is to fit a change-over contact on the starter relay, which should be possible in most instances.
We would stress that it is not good practice to overlap the heater since it can cause hotspots and produce a rapids aging effect.
TYPICAL VALUES
Data below is for 220 Volt Heater Tapes
Dielectric Strength 2000 Volts (r.m.s.) Dry.
For 400 / 440 V supply it is usual to connect 2 x 240V units in series.

Motor Fans & Accessories
GENERAL
The fans are designed with a flat back to minimise the possibility of fouling on the Endshield or grease tube. The hub is deep enough so that it can be bored and keyed to suit the fixing to the original motor with an allowance for a locking bolt.
The hub is also circular so that, after machining, the fan will still remain in balance, however we do recommend that, after machining, a check balance be carried out, especially where low vibration limits are required...
If necessary the OD of the fan can be reduced however the airflow will drop. Care should be taken to ensure that blade breakage does not occur.
APPLICATIONS
The range of cast Aluminium fans, designed for electric motors IEC71 - IEC1 80, are designed for use by repair shops. The fans are supplied with a substantial hub that is unmachined so that it can be bored and keyed to suit the motor’s shaft dimensions.

Motor Fans and Bushes
GENERAL
With conventional ‘standard’ replacement fans the bore dimensions rarely match those of the motor spindle ends. It is also often impractical to alter the fan bore dimensions due to the difficulties involved in holding the fan in a lathe plus it is a costly operation to turn the motor spindle to a suitable dimension to obtain a proper fit. This results in repair shops having to carry large fan stocks which take up valuable storage space and involve capital outlay.
The CS range of fans are manufactured with a single, large diameter bore and supplied with appropriate bushes to fit a variety of spindle dimensions. In the event of a perfectly fitting bush not being available it is a simple process to turn the bore of the nearest smaller sized bush to the required dimension.
For each size of fan there are various bush sizes with standard bore and two keyways, also an additional bush with cylindrical bore for turning on a lathe. Problems from expansion are eliminated as both fans and bushes are manufactured from the same material providing complete compatibility. A feature of this unique bushing system is the three lips inside the fan bore positioned above and below to ensure a strong, permanent fit from both sides. If it is necessary to lock the bush to the motor shaft this is also possible as the fan can be fitted afterwards.
APPLICATIONS
The range of polypropylene fans, designed for electric motors frames IEC71 - IEC180. They are an invaluable development for both repair shops and manufacturers of small batches. Their unique, universal bushing system eliminates any need for expensive tooling to produce special fans.
To cover the widest range of applications, fans are manufactured as flat as possible making them suitable for motors of differing manufacture. For even greater flexibility one size of bush is suitable for two fan types. The special mixture of easily machinable polypropylene used in manufacture provides a smooth finish.

Bi-Metal Thermostats
GENERAL
Bi-Metal Thermostats are current sensitive thermal protection for coils and windings.
The main features are:
Temperature & Current sensitive
Small size
High switching capacity
Minimal contact resistance
Good pressure resistance
Suitable for varied applications
These thermal cutouts operate by means of a thermally sensitive, bimetal snap-element which switches a double electrical contact when a preset temperature is reached. They can be designed for normally open or normally closed contacts. The electrical current being switched flows through the bimetal element, which therefore gives a combination of temperature and current sensitivity. Heat transfer occurs on all sides via convection, radiation or conduction in gaseous or solid media. When placed on a surface that is to be monitored, the Bi-Metal Detector conducts heat directly onto the bimetal element, allowing its use as a surface temperature cutout.
APPLICATIONS
Thermal protection plus temperature control of electrical machinery and equipment under certain circumstances, e.g.
AC motors
Generators
Electromagnets
Oil baths
Accumulators
Copiers
Single phase motors
Transformers
Inverters
Water boilers
Hot air dryers
